The History of Euthanasia
In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind? Job 12:10
“In ancient Greece and Rome, before the coming of Christianity, attitudes toward infanticide, active euthanasia, and suicide had tended to be tolerant. Many ancient Greeks and Romans had no cogently defined belief in the inherent value of individual human life, and pagan physicians likely performed frequent abortions as well as both voluntary and involuntary mercy killings.” ProCon.org
Before the word of God was spread throughout the world, we see that the “advanced kingdoms” of the world at that time, really had no defined belief in the value of individual human life. Why? I cannot say for sure, other than the “gods (demons)” that they were serving, blinded their minds and hardened their hearts so that they could not see the worth of human life. It seems as though they were living in moral relativism, where the society accepted each other’s different moral values. It is a belief that the “right” moral values are the values that exist in their own culture.
They didn’t see abortion or Euthanasia as murder, for the simple fact, they had no knowledge of the standard of God. They had no knowledge that all human life, was created with an eternal purpose. They didn’t know, that all human being is beautifully and wonderfully made. But we do!
Jesus Christ came and died at just the right time. The world was living in complete darkness with no knowledge of the standard of God. They had no truth, and therefore were living their lives like the people in the book of Judges, “everyone did what was right in their own eyes”. But praises be to God, that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and expose his lies.
It is appointed for man to die once, then after that comes judgement. Hebrews 9:27
The bible says that the Devil has come to steal, kill, and destroy, and while this is being promoted as “Death with Dignity”, it is actually demonic and it speaks to the mentality of this generation, that we are “gods”, and therefore have the right to take lives (abortion) even if it is our own. But this is called murder!
God is the giver and taker of life, and although we suffer and go through many heartaches and pain, He has given us Jesus Christ, who is our hope and salvation, our strength and our rock. And yes it’s almost unavoidable, to live life without pain and suffering, it is still a life that has purpose and meaning in God’s eyes.
Many know the story of Joni Eareckson Tada, how she was paralyzed as a teenager and has no movement from her shoulders down, including the use of her hands. She is in constant pain sometimes excruciating pain. Many in the world today can say that she has a valid reason to end her life because after all, she is bound to a wheelchair for the rest of her life right? Not at all! She held on to Jesus Christ, and that has made all the difference in her life. She suffers daily yes! but her hope is in our Savior, and through her and her husband’s ministry, they have blessed to many people. Many have come to the Lord through her books, her songs, and her paintings are one of a kind. Joni is just 1 example of a person that is constantly suffering from pain, yet her eyes are on eternity! There are many others like her.
A Generation that Embraces Death
Many countries like Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and the US states of Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Hawaii, Vermont, Montana, Washington D.C, California, and New Jersey (August 1, 2019), have declared euthanasia as being humane, but what it really is, is evil. What it really is, is man’s attempt to play God.
No man has authority to restrain the wind with the wind, or authority over the day of death; and there is no discharge in the time of war, and evil will not deliver those who practice it. Ecclesiastes 8:8
If you pay attention to what drives this generation, you will notice that it’s the spirit of Anti-Christ. They go up against anything that the word of God says is sin, but not without its consequences. In an effort to be free, they are actually enslaving themselves and are living in great bondage. Sin brings death! Embrace sin, you’re ultimately embracing (accepting or supporting) death!
Euthanasia is the doorway
Suicide rates are rising! Many people are finding it easier to kill themselves rather than to go on in life hurting. This is really sad, that in the times we are living in there are more and more people being diagnosed with all types of physiological and emotional problems, but no one really stops to ask why? Why if we are advanced in so many areas, we have “successful” people like Anthony Bourdain, being indifferent to life. He lived the way he wanted to )without God), yet found no joy in life. There are many others like him too. That live the life they want to, only to find that it brought them lower and lower into the pit, to the point of not seeing a way out.
Euthanasia is the doorway for many like Anthony Bourdain, who are suffering silently, to see this as an open invitation to give up on life. You might ask, but can’t they do that by committing suicide anyways? the answer is NO! If you have ever gone through thoughts of suicide, you will know that it’s not as easy as taking a razor or gun and just “doing it.” It may be the initial thought, but when push comes to shove, many have backed out. You may also ask, well wouldn’t they back down from Euthanasia also, to that I will answer, you’re not understanding. People that commit suicide do it when they are alone because they know deep down inside it’s wrong. They know that if their loved ones knew, what they were about to do, they would talk them out if it. That’s because many still view killing yourself as selfish. But now that many Countries are embracing it, trust and believe that it will be marketed and glorified as normal and will even be encouraged until people are desensitized to the fact that it is wrong.
Folks as time goes on, we will see more and more things being supported and promoted as being good. You will see people passionately fighting for their rights to destroy their lives and those around them, but we as the church must rise up and fight against this wickedness. We must push back the darkness and let people know that there is hope found in Jesus Christ. we must tell them that Jesus loves them and died for them. Do not keep silent while you have the truth that can bring life, abundant life to a person that is in pain.
Friend, if you are thinking of going down this path, I pray that this message has opened up your eyes to the truth. I pray that the love of Jesus will fill your heart and that His Spirit leads you to repentance. The word of God says, that there is hope for those that are alive, and that hope is eternal life with Jesus Christ. You may be suffering and in great pain, but Jesus will take your burden, surrender your life to Him today!
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”Matthew 11:28-30
